It’s getting to be time of the year for some spring cleaning!  Putting the winter stuff away and bringing out the spring and summer items that have been stored in your garage, basement or attic.  Instead of putting your winter stuff in the garage, basement or attic, why not rent a space from StorPlace?  We have just about any size units you could think of, from 3 x 3 all the way up to 15 x 15 or even extra parking for those boats and jet skis.  Rent a space from 10 x 25 or even 10 x 30.   Some locations have covered canopies to help protect your paint in case you don’t have a cover for it.  Whatever your need, I’m sure we have the space.  Whether it is a need for heated and cooled, or pull up ground accessible, for easy access, we have it.  We are never more than a phone call away.  Even better, just drop by any one of our 10 locations throughout Middle Tennessee  Nashville and one of our friendly staff will be more than willing to help you assess your needs.

Maybe you have a college student coming home for the summer.  Rent a storage unit for those summer months instead of having to move all their belongings two times.

There is never a long term contract to sign.  We offer a convenient month to month lease.  No minimum, no maximum.  Stay for as long as you want, or for just a month or two.  Whatever the need, we have the solution at a reasonable cost.

Always consider safety when moving.  Especially when lifting heavy furniture or boxes.  For those of you  who have a unit inside of a building, StorPlace Self Storage always has a cart available for easy moving.  Just load up the cart, and wheel it to your unit.  No carrying heavy boxes down long hallways or up a flight of stairs.  Our locations even have elevators for buildings with 2 or more floors.

Stop by one of our locations or just pick up the phone and give us a call.  We will be more than happy to help you with your storage needs or questions.

Place Self Storage Gives Practical Tips on Packing Your Living Room and Den

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

This blog is a continuation of another  blog that explained how to pack your kitchen.  This article will be explaining how to pack your living room and or den.  Let’s start with the odds and ends and the knick knacks first. These items need to be placed in the small box that is sold at StorPlace Self Storage and if you have a lot of small figurines, it may be wise to use the same glass packing kit you used in the kitchen. Just a small reminder the glass packing kit is a small cardboard grid that fits into the small box and it also has form inserts that fit into the grid. This kit will work great for all those small items. Any larger knick knacks you may have should be put into the Medium Box and wrapped in either newsprint or bubble wrap (also sold at StorPlace) or possibly both. Just make sure that the boxes are completely full even if it is full of mostly paper. Next work on the lamps. StorPlace sells a lamp base box that will fit most lamps. First unplug the lamp and remove the shade and the light bulb.  Then wrap the cord around the lamp and then wrap the lamp with bubble wrap and slide it into the lamp base box. The shade of the lamp can be put in either a medium box or three large boxes depending on the size of the lamp shade.

Once you have all the lamps and knick knacks done, you will be able to start on the furniture. Let’s start with the end tables; most of them have glass on top.  So remove the glass and place it between two pieces of cardboard and wrap it with tape and then wrap it with bubble wrap. Once you get that completed, wrap the end table with shrink wrap. Shrink wrap works wonderful to keep the furniture protected and it will also keep any drawers shut. That brings us to a good point and that is to never and I do mean never put tape on your furniture to keep the draws shut as it will rip the finish right off the furniture.  The next items on the list are the couch and love seat. If they are a recliner couch or love seat, you may want to wrap the foot rest shut with shrink wrap and then place the couch covers over the couch and love seat and use tape to pull them tight. Self storage is a very good place to store precious items, especially in a climate controlled storage unit.

The final items to move in the living room are the entertainment center and TV. The entertainment center can be packed up pretty much the same way as the end tables. Just wrap it up with shrink wrap and make sure all the doors and draws are shut and secured with the shrink wrap. Before you take out all the wires to the TV, stereo, and game stations etc, label the wires so that you will know what wire goes where when you get to your new home. As far as the TV goes, it is a wise idea to save the box it came in when you bought it to move it in and also refer to your owner’s manual on how to move the TV. The next blog will address how to pack up your bedroom.  You now are ready to set a date for the Nashville movers. Stay tuned!

Please come visit us at 1615 Charlotte Road, Nashville, TN 37203, or you can call us at 615-321-0400.

How to Pack for using Self Storage

Many people are finding that self storage is necessary as they downsize and move to smaller living spaces to save money during the downturn in the current economy. Packing possessions correctly for storage is extremely important to avoid damage while they are being stored or as they are moved from your home to the storage unit. StorPlace offers many unit sizes to help fit your budgeting and storage needs.

Reasons for Choosing Self Storage

There may be a variety of reasons that you choose to use a self storage, and each will differ according to individual circumstance. However, regardless of the reason, a storage unit provides a quick and practical solution for the storage needs of many people.

Tips for Using Self Storage

If you are putting personal or household items into self storage, there are a few tips you may want to keep in mind.  Different materials react differently to the heat, cold and passage of time as you store items.  Ask your StorPlace Self Storage manager about heat and cooled storage units.

Downsizing and Self Storage

Many individuals are currently finding themselves in the position of needing to downsize and move into smaller living spaces or make room for family or others to move into their home. The result either way is that self storage has become a popular way to place possessions in safekeeping.

Packing Efficiently for Self Storage

When you rent a self storage unit, you basically pay for the unit by the square foot. Therefore, you want to be as efficient as possible in packing items to put into the self storage facility and you want to be efficient as you pack things into the storage unit.  StorPlace carries a wide variety of packing boxes, from small to wardrobe boxes for clothing.  Also available are items such as tape, rope, bubble wrap, and shrink wrap.  Glasses and dishes can be tucked away safely in special dishpack boxes with dividers.

Long Term Storage Tips

There are many reasons why you might find yourself needing to place possessions in long term storage. For example, you may be moving out Country Music Nashville and not sure if you will stay in your new location. You may want to save yourself the expense of moving until you are settled in your new area. Or you may have moved to a much smaller residence and know that you will not be able to move back into a larger residence for some time. Alternatively, you may want a storage facility for an item like an RV, trailer or boat, which need to be stored for months at a time.

Checking Out Long Term Storage

There are many who are opting to move out of their rather large homes and into smaller ones. Unfortunately, some of these people are finding themselves with no choice but to downsize. It does not really matter what the situation is, what matters is what they are going to do with the items in their homes that they are not going to be able to fit into their new home. This is where many start looking at the possibilities of long-term storage for their furniture, extra clothing, various other household items, and in many cases boats, RVs, and vehicles.

The Advantages of Storing with StorPlace Self Storage

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

As times are getting more and more financially difficult for most of us, we are considering ways to try to save even more money.  For some of us, that means moving into smaller Nashville homes.  The only question left when doing so, is “What do I do with all this extra stuff that I don’t have room for?”

Moving  , even with movers Nashville, is a very stressful event in the life cycle of a family. Even though the reason may be a positive one, it requires so much planning, ingenuity, and down right hard work.

If someone has never used self storage before, it is difficult to know what size unit would best fit their needs. Here are some guidelines.  A 5 X 5 is about the size of a small storage closet. This unit can hold a chest of drawers, or a desk, or about 50 boxes.  A 5 X 10 is about like a walk in closet and is big enough for furnishings from a typical office suite or a couch, chair, and mattress set or can hold about 100 file boxes.  A 10 X 10 is the most popular size unit and can hold the contents of a one bedroom apartment including appliances or two office suites and/or has the capacity of 500 file boxes. The 10 X 15 can hold the contents of a two bedroom apartment and is big enough to hold building materials, and/or motorized equipment. The 10 X 20 is ideal for furnishings from a smaller home, or a car, truck, or construction equipment. The next size is the 10 x 25 and is about the same size as a standard garage. This unit will hold the contents of a small home, or a vehicle. Businesses can store retail inventory, construction materials, and office files. The next size is a 10 X 30 and can fit the contents of a three bedroom home, or a business can use this space as a construction or retail mini warehouse site.

We also have heated and cooled units for those of you who have antiques, old photos or electronics.  We also have any type of packing supplies you may need.  We have lots of different size boxes, from small cube boxes to large wardrobe boxes.  Also, we have  bubble wrap, mattress covers, couch and chair covers and much, much more.  Whatever your need, we have the solution.

Just pick up the phone and dial 1-877-4STORPL or visit us online at www.storplaceselfstorage.com.  All of our staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and are eager to help.  There are 10 (soon to be 11) stores conveniently located near you in the Middle Tennessee area.

Each of our stores has enclosed gating, and has state of the art 24 hour surveillance 7 days a week.  You can feel safe and secure while you are here and your belongings will be just as safe and secure.

If you are getting your house ready to sell, you may want to consider storing some of your personal items, such as family portraits hanging on your walls or those cute little  keepsakes ‘ you have displayed all throughout the house.  The less personalized your house is, the better chances are of getting it sold.

Maybe you are not selling your house and you may just want to make more room.  What ever is creating your need for storage, we can help and at an affordable rate.  And just so you don’t have to worry about stopping in every month to pay your rent, you can sign up for convenient e-billing.  Simply go to our web site and sign up.  It is that simple.  You can also have your credit card billed automatically each month.   We also offer insurance with no deductible for those of you whose home  owner’s or renter insurance will not cover your belongings while in storage at an affordable price. Please come visit us at 2360 Gallatin Road, Madison, TN 37115, or you can call us at 615-851-2500.

StorPlace Self Storage Takes the Stress Out of Moving

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Our family was moving with movers Nashville to another county to be closer to my husband’s work. We needed to sell our house because we already had a contract on a house closer to his work. We ended up hiring a staging consultant to come in and evaluate how to best show our house for the market with hopes it would sell quicker. The consultant said that our house had way too much clutter and furniture. This made the rooms look smaller and made it more difficult for a prospective buyer to visualize themselves in our house. The staging consultant recommended we move a ‘lot of our belongings and declutter the closets and the kids’ rooms. We called StorPlace Self Storage, which was right down the street. The people at StorPlace Self Storage were so helpful and friendly, realizing our urgency and our need for a safe and secure place to put our stuff. They helped us find the perfect storage unit, and they were flexible on the length of time to store because we didn’t know how long we would need. They rent month to month. Also they had all of packing supplies we would need plus a rental truck.

Moving is a very stressful. Even though the reason may be a positive one, it requires so much planning and a lot of hard work. Our staging consultant was excellent, but in truth, she had no mercy about the salability of our house. In fact,  decluttering was not nearly enough. She insisted that we move all of our large furniture into storage. In the meanwhile, we had to move into one of Nashville’s hotels. She said this furniture that we found comfortable and quite acceptable looked old and ragged. She insisted that we go rent brand new furniture to put in the den. Of course, this added a significant additional expense to our moving cost, for which we were unprepared. We had the cost of the staging consultant, rented furniture, hotel, and furniture storage.

My husband loves to go fishing in the spring, and it is truly his way to relax. She took one look at our beloved fishing boat and trailer and said that his rust-eaten, hideous boat and trailer must be gotten rid of. In order to save costs and still maintain convenience, we looked at several options including a POD, a marina slip, and boat storage. However, all things considered, the boat storage option at StorPlace Self Storage represented the most economical and feasible, solution. The POD, while slightly more expensive,  would have cluttered the yard, and we would have been locked into a lease that was not month to month, and this is what we were trying to get away from. The boat storage option was economical and convenient. We had access to the boat from 6 in the morning until 10 at night and could pay for 24 hour access on an as-needed or permanent basis for those early morning fishing trips. We had our choice of which parking space to pick on the lot which was fully-lit, fully gated, had 24 hour surveillance and a full gated property. We even had the option of having covered parking. This provided an easy and happy solution for my diehard fisherman who can’t wait to hit those early morning bass, crappie, and bream.

So we are now onto our personal task of packing up storage boxes in the garage, children’s baby toys and riding vehicles, and all of the excess athletic balls and shoes that we have accumulated for years. Actually our house looks a lot better and newer and makes us kind of want to stay here. We do not know what we would have done without StorPlace Self Storage. Please come visit us at 7332 Tolbert Rd, Nashville, TN 37209, or you can call us at 615-356-3600.

StorPlace Self Storage Provides Self Storage Tips

Monday, December 21st, 2009

One of the most important tips to know when using self storage to house your belongings is to always label everything correctly and packaged everything securely. Too many people just throw their items in boxes that are unlabeled and then ship them off to storage in their storage units. In addition to labeling everything properly, be sure to use packing such as peanuts or newspaper to protect anything that is fragile. Be sure to wrap your boxes in bubble wrap or some sort of plastic in an effort to protect them from flood or moisture on the ground. This prevents your paper-based boxes and packaging from absorbing any excess water from the concrete ground. Storplace Self Storage has all these items in their offices for your convenience.

Vacuum storage bags are another type of plastic container storage that we  highly recommend. Using self storage vacuum bags to store clothing can save an immense amount of space since the point of these self storage bags is to compress everything stored in them. If most of what you are storing in your self storage unit is clothing or fabric,  we advise spending a few dollars on some self storage vacuum bags.

If you are storing irreplaceable items such as personal or financial documents it is probably best to invest in a fireproof and water proof safe. Important paperwork and the like should never just be thrown into your self storage unit. Items such as these belong in a fireproof safe which is then stored in your self storage unit. This provides the ultimate protection for the most valuable of your belongings. Failure to follow these guidelines can be potentially expensive  but they can prevent catastrophic mistakes .So please do not scrimp when storing your most valuable possessions in a self storage unit.

Mattresses and furniture, similarly to clothing and fabric products, should be wrapped in some sort of plastic to protect them. At Storplace we offer plastic shrink wrap as well as wardrobe boxes or storing clothes.  Even if stored in climate controlled storage, item such as these are always susceptible to mold and mildew and the last thing you want is mold growing on your mattress and clothing and furniture. Not only is mold and mildew ugly, it can also cause serious health problems for people with certain medical conditions such as asthma. For this reason alone, it is critical to pack your mattresses and furniture correctly when putting it into self storage for any amount of time.

One of the primary benefits of renting a climate controlled storage unit is the well made construction that is difficult to penetrate. In order to maintain a constant temperature the climate controlled units are all extremely well insulated. This additional insulation helps to keep your items well protected from all weather and the humidity changes that come with it. Most regular storage units are designed to offer basic protection from weather such as wind, rain, and snow. Climate controlled units help protect items from frost, dew build up, and dampness.

There are many benefits to be had from the protection offered by the climate controlled storage units from humid weather. Most furniture damage people experience  comes as a result of humidity and exposure to extreme temperature. Electronics and other items will become permanently damaged after being exposed to damp weather for long periods of time. This damage can include rusting that leaves equipment unusable or permanently damaged. Furniture can be damaged as a result of mold or mildew that occurs because of the dampness and this mold or mildew can cause serious illness if not removed at once.

Another benefit of climate controlled storage is the protection offered from wildlife and insects. The additional insulation used to keep the climate controlled  unit at a steady temperature also helps keep pests on the outside where they belong. Most rodents have a difficult time getting in and out of climate controlled buildings. Insects too have a hard time getting into storage controlled units .This difficulty will help protect your belongings from serious harm or from being ruined. In some cases storage facilities offering climate controlled storage will include pest control options because they know how easy it is to keep pests out of their facilities. Storplace Self Storage sprays its properties once a month for bugs and insects. Storplace cares that your valuables are kept free from insect damage. Hopefully these tips will come in handy as you make your storage decisions. Feel free to visit your local Storplace Self Storage center for more helpful advice. We at Antioch Nashville are here to serve you. Please come visit us at 5251 Mt. View Road, Antioch, TN 37013, or you can call us at 615-731-1331.

StorPlace Self Storage Explains the Value of Why to Use Self Storage ?

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Self storage is an often overlooked service that provides a lot of convenience and peace of mind. It can be used for a wide variety of reasons. First on the list is moving. People need to think about what to do with the things they cannot take with them and are too priceless to be sold in a garage sale.

Usually, people will leave these things in their old house or in some cases, with their relatives or friends. This is pretty inconvenient especially if you wanted to retrieve those items immediately but you would still have to set up a convenient time for the retrieval.

On the other hand, self storage units are very convenient and extremely cost-effective. They can be found almost anywhere, even along highways. Here are some more reasons why you should be using self storage:

Close proximity. You can store things in a place which is close to where you live or plan to move.

Space-effective. You will be renting only the amount of space you need.

Things are safe and secured. You do not need to worry about safety as most units have great security measures and they do have special services like temperature controlled and weather proofing, enabling you to store valuable antiques without being concerned about mildew formation.

Flexible. The storage units are cost-effective. You also have the option to choose a specific size as well as the intended time frame.

Ideal when renovating. When you are renovating your home, it is ideal if you have a self storage unit where you can store your valuables.

Repository for supplies. If you run a small business, it is a great way to stockpile your surplus items.

Eliminate clutter. All excess items, be it in your house or your workplace, can be stored in self storage units so as to have a well-organized abode. Self storage will grant you a piece of mind.  You can still have belongings and not tumble over them by accident.

Selling your old house. You will now be able to give potential buyers a tour around your old house, minus all your furniture and other belongings. Safely store them in a self storage facility and subsequently retrieve them after you buy your new house.

Ideal for hobbyists and collectors. If you collect odds and ends, a self storage facility will be a great place to store all your knick-knacks. It is a great investment if you are really serious with your chosen hobby.

Self storage is a facility where you have the control over the whole process. Once you rent your storage space, you can store your items on your own. It is  like an extension to your house, where you can have unlimited and flexible access. You can rent something as small as a storage closet or as large as 600 square feet or more.

You will find a flexible and friendly agreement in our self storage facilities where you can store month to month. You can upgrade at any time if you require more space and downgrade if you find you are left with unused space.

If you are looking for a small space to store the articles of your closet or a larger space to keep all your household belongings or if you want to keep your office material in a safe and secured place, this is the most simple and cost-efficient solution. Please come visit us at 2156 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37217, or you can call us at 615-361-1000.

StorPlace Self Storage Provides Practical Information On How to Store Antiques and Art

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

When preparing to store paintings, antique furniture or mirrors, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Find the Right Self Storage Unit

Controlling the temperature within the storage unit is essential. When comparing facilities, ask about the availability of climate control. This uses central air and heat to maintain a temperature within the unit of 50-80 degrees and reduce humidity. Some facilities have a dehumidifier as well — usually for units on the first floor or subterranean levels.  Transporting your antiques or art from the truck to your unit can open up opportunities for damage. Consider looking for a drive up unit, or an inside unit on the ground floor. If your unit is on an upper level, be sure there’s an elevator. Many facilities have dollies and carts available for your use at the facility as well. If your items are worth storing, then they are worth insuring. Most storage facilities require proof of insurance covering your belongings to at least $2,000. At StorPlace Self Storage, we offer affordable insurance policies for up to $10,000 that can be added in to your rental agreement.

Pack with Care

Wrap mirrors and pictures in protective covering such as thick blankets, bubble wrap or felt. These items should never be stored flat, as they can collapse under their own weight.  Clear plastic wrap can be used instead of tape to secure packing materials – StorPlace carries 2 sizes of rolls. We also have small and large boxes, specifically designed for packing mirrors or large paintings that can be purchased.  All of our Middle Tennessee  Nashville, stores, sell quality packing supplies including these boxes for your convenience of ‘one stop shopping’.

If you are storing upholstered products such as mattresses, sofas and fabric dining room chairs, consider investing in covers or bags for additional protection. Here at StorPlace Self Storage we have you covered.  Our storage facilities have just about every item for moving and storage convenience you can imagine for this purpose.

Disassemble weak or heavy pieces of furniture, such as a mirror attached to a dresser, or a headboard from a bed frame. Wrap and cover the separate sections, clearly marking them as parts of a whole.  Keep components such as screws and bolts together in a plastic bag and tape the bag to bubble wrap or plastic wrapped around the appropriate piece of furniture.  A good idea is to number these pieces for ease of reassembly.

Covering chair legs with bubble wrap or rags for extra protection is always a first-class precautionary measure. Do not stack antique furniture.  Be sure to leave it free standing. Spray wood furniture with a good quality furniture polish before storing it to give it some added protection. Treat leather items with a leather conditioner before you store them. Wipe down metal objects and tools with a little oil before storing them to avoid rust formation that can occur when the tools are not used regularly. Separate lamp bases and lampshades and wrap them for protection. Do not forget to remove those light bulbs.

You may want to consider having awkward or heavy pieces packed professionally.  Being sure, as you go, to keep an inventory of every item you have packed.  Ideally by taking a picture of each piece before it is wrapped.  Including an estimate of the replacement value of each item you store. These steps will help you make accurate insurance claims in case of unforeseen damage or loss, and estimate appropriate property protection coverage levels.

Your self-storage facility manager can be a great resource for storage solutions and packing hints. Be sure to ask us for guidance – we may have important information you may not have considered otherwise. StorPlace Self Storage Makes Fall Cleaning the Easy Way

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Spring Cleaning is a popularly heard term as the cold winter weather changes over to a more hospitable temperature. What is not so universally popular is the concept of Fall Cleaning. But if one stops to think about it, it makes absolute sense. Colder, harsher weather is just on the horizon causing us to stay indoors more. Why not make the indoors a little more cleaner, organized and livable for all those months spent cooped up inside the house. Also, as a bonus a thorough fall cleaning of your house makes less work when the busy holiday season comes up. Nobody enjoys trying to clean and get the house ready at the last minute for holiday parties or friends stopping by or even family members staying at your home for the holidays.

A good first step is to have your carpeting cleaned by professionals. Experts say a carpet should be professionally cleaned once every 6-18 months depending on foot traffic. A really thorough cleaning can be achieved by removing as much furniture from the area being cleaned as possible. A convenient way to get furniture out of the house is by renting a storage unit for use short term. Having someplace to put the furniture temporarily so that the cleaning professionals can do a really thorough job when they come to your house is a good way to ensure that all the carpet gets cleaned, not just the areas not covered up by furniture. A storage container that measures 100 feet or a 10×10 size unit is a good size for storing furniture in the short term. The size, of course, depends on how many pieces of furniture are being stored and how large those pieces are. The storage professionals at Storplace Self Storage can help identify the perfect size unit based on your needs.

Here’s a dreaded chore. Fall is a good time to clean out your attic. When the weather starts cooling down is the best time to climb up in your attic and find out what’s up there.  It still may be warm in there so another good use for a storage unit would be to bring down all the boxes and plastic totes up there and put them in a unit temporarily to get them out of the way while you check the attic for mildew and clean away all the dust and cobwebs that accumulate up there. Professionals can be hired to do this for you if you have bad allergies particularly if you are allergic to the insulation that is commonly found in attic walls and floors. While doing this it would be a good time to check the roof for leaks as well as having the energy efficiency of the house checked as well.

Finally, put away all outdoor furniture such as patio tables and chairs, umbrellas, benches and swings. Even weatherproof furniture will last years longer if not exposed to the harsh temperature changes of late fall through the snow and ice of winter and early spring. Also any children’s toys such as small pools, outdoor plastic playhouses, sandboxes or water tables will last much longer if they don’t stay outside all winter. If Nashville garage space is at a premium and it usually is the storage unit will come in handy once again. And don’t forget to bring in garden hoses and hose style sprinklers in from the outside as well. Just make sure they’ve been drained thoroughly before storing.

Fall cleaning may not get as much publicity as spring cleaning but is just as important. Renting a storage unit to help you in your cleaning endeavors will be a big time and headache saver. And while you have the space to help in the cleaning process why not hide all those holiday gifts in there as well. Yes, it’ll be that time of year before you know it.
