How to Pack for using Self Storage

Many people are finding that self storage is necessary as they downsize and move to smaller living spaces to save money during the downturn in the current economy. Packing possessions correctly for storage is extremely important to avoid damage while they are being stored or as they are moved from your home to the storage unit. StorPlace offers many unit sizes to help fit your budgeting and storage needs.

Reasons for Choosing Self Storage

There may be a variety of reasons that you choose to use a self storage, and each will differ according to individual circumstance. However, regardless of the reason, a storage unit provides a quick and practical solution for the storage needs of many people.

Tips for Using Self Storage

If you are putting personal or household items into self storage, there are a few tips you may want to keep in mind.  Different materials react differently to the heat, cold and passage of time as you store items.  Ask your StorPlace Self Storage manager about heat and cooled storage units.

Downsizing and Self Storage

Many individuals are currently finding themselves in the position of needing to downsize and move into smaller living spaces or make room for family or others to move into their home. The result either way is that self storage has become a popular way to place possessions in safekeeping.

Packing Efficiently for Self Storage

When you rent a self storage unit, you basically pay for the unit by the square foot. Therefore, you want to be as efficient as possible in packing items to put into the self storage facility and you want to be efficient as you pack things into the storage unit.  StorPlace carries a wide variety of packing boxes, from small to wardrobe boxes for clothing.  Also available are items such as tape, rope, bubble wrap, and shrink wrap.  Glasses and dishes can be tucked away safely in special dishpack boxes with dividers.

Long Term Storage Tips

There are many reasons why you might find yourself needing to place possessions in long term storage. For example, you may be moving out Country Music Nashville and not sure if you will stay in your new location. You may want to save yourself the expense of moving until you are settled in your new area. Or you may have moved to a much smaller residence and know that you will not be able to move back into a larger residence for some time. Alternatively, you may want a storage facility for an item like an RV, trailer or boat, which need to be stored for months at a time.

Checking Out Long Term Storage

There are many who are opting to move out of their rather large homes and into smaller ones. Unfortunately, some of these people are finding themselves with no choice but to downsize. It does not really matter what the situation is, what matters is what they are going to do with the items in their homes that they are not going to be able to fit into their new home. This is where many start looking at the possibilities of long-term storage for their furniture, extra clothing, various other household items, and in many cases boats, RVs, and vehicles.

StorPlace Self Storage Offers Covered Parking

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

While the economy is still in a down turn, we find ourselves instead of discarding our belongings realizing it is to our advantage to maintain them. We take our vehicles to the repair shop instead of replacing them. After we put our hard earned dollars into then, we must have a safe place to have them stored. Now while this is only one scenario, maybe we are on the other end of the spectrum. Recreational vehicles and boat prices are now at an all time low. If we have the money to spend, why not purchase that long desired vehicle such as a Recreational Vehicle, Boat, Motor Cycle, Jet Ski etc. Many people reason, “If I can afford it, now is the time to purchase it, and after I buy it, where will I store it?” StorPlace Self Storage offers both covered and uncovered parking spaces at a reasonable price. StorPlace Self Storage provides state of the art digital surveillance equipment for the protection of your vehicles. The property is fully secure with a gated, keypad access. Only the owner has the code to get in. The properties are very well lit to insure safety and security. The lots are very well maintained so that there will be no damage to your property.

While the gate can be accessed from 6 am to 10 pm, longer access is available to those with recreational vehicles needing to get in and out.

You might ask yourself “Why do I need off site parking”? One problem that we will have to worry about is the lack of space at our current living situation. Many homeowners have downsized. The ever popular condominiums, zero lot lines, townhomes, and apartment complexes many times will allow you only two parking spaces. We need not mention the families that have found it necessary to share their home with relatives.  Households in the United States on average have 2.28 vehicles, and that was based on single households. Where will they put any extra Cars/ RVs /Boats?

Another reason to consider Self Storage for your extra vehicle is the price.  Recreation vehicles range from approximately $6000.00 to well above $500.000.00.  Investments such as these are well worth protecting, not to with a manager living on property and where there is 24 hour site surveillance.

A benefit of covered parking is the extreme weather Nashville, Tennessee, and Middle Tn., Nashville experiences from time to time such as the tornados we have had in the past.  So if you don’t have a safe, secure location for your extra vehicle please come by one of StorPlace Self Storage’ s  facilities and check out our covered and non covered  outside  parking. We also offer inside parking which is fully covered and locked with a door and a lock and key.

Three StorPlace Self Storage  Centers in Nashville/Hermitage now  have state of the art Covered RV Parking; Storplace Self Storage on Old Hickory Blvd. at Nolensville Rd., Storplace Self Storage on Murfreesboro Rd. , both conveniently located in Nashville, TN. and Storplace Self Storage in Hermitage, Tennessee.

Our other facilities have inside covered parking and outside parking. Come visit us at 14985 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37211, or you can call ust at 615-832-3388.

Storing At StorPlace Self Storage

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

It’s that time of year again!  Putting the summer stuff away and bringing out the fall and winter decorations that have been stored in your garage, basement or attic.  Instead of putting your summer stuff in the garage, basement or attic, why not rent a  storage space from StorPlace?  We have just about any size units you could think of, from 3 x 3 all the way up to 30 x 20 or even extra parking for cars, boats, RV’s, lawn equipment, 10 x 25 or even 10 x 30, some with covered canopies so your paint won’t fade. Some people like to park their special cars inside a unit. Whatever your need, I’m sure we have the space.  Whether it is a need for heated and cooled, or pull up ground accessible, for easy access, we have it.  We are never more than a phone call away.  Even better, just drop by any one of our 10 (soon to be 11)locations throughout Middle Tennessee Nashville  and one of our friendly staff will be more than willing to help you assess your needs.

Don’t just stop there.  There is also a huge supply of  moving boxes and all the packing supplies you need.  From small boxes to large boxes, to tape, foam peanuts or even bubble wrap, just to name a few, StorPlace has exactly what you’re looking for.  Not to mention, if you rent a unit from us, you will also receive a 10% discount on all your packing supplies.  So, forget about all the stress with trying to move boxes around from room to room in your house or apartment.  Use one of our convenient locations.  There is one just around the corner from where ever you are.

Looking for somewhere to store that antique furniture?  Look no further.  We have just what you need.  We are also the perfect solution for when you need to move and don’t want to risk losing those old family photos.  And don’t forget how expensive it can be to replace those damaged electronics.  If any moisture gets to them, they are ruined.  Nothing says preserving your valuables like heated and cooled.  Why store at one of those places that don’t offer heated and cooled units?  Why risk it?

There is never a long term contract to sign.  We offer a convenient month to month lease.  We offer a minimum of a two week rental.  Stay for as long as you want, or for just a month or two.  Whatever the need, we have the solution at a reasonable cost.

Always consider safety when moving.  Especially when lifting heavy furniture or boxes.  For those of you have a unit inside of a building, StorPlace Self Storage always has a cart available for easy moving.  Just load up the cart, and wheel it to your unit.  No carrying heavy boxes down long hallways or up a flight of stairs.  Our locations even have elevators for buildings with 2 or more floors.

Stop by one of our locations or just pick up the phone and give us a call.  We will be more than happy to help you with your storage needs or questions. We can even reserve or get you moved in over the phone with our convenient call center open until 11 pm. StorPlace Self Storage Storage Tips

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Chances are, if you live on the planet Earth, you will have to use self storage at one point or another.  You may be moving, but your house or apartment is not ready yet.  You may be selling your home, only to find out it needs to be staged and this means you have to de-clutter to make it presentable.  Or you could be a college student, preparing to go home for the summer, but you don’t want to lug your belongings all the way home. Whatever your need for storage, this valuable information can be used to help make your transition into storage an easy one.

Whether you are storing a whole home or just a few boxes, you need to determine a size.  Inventory what you are putting into the space, take this list to your local StorPlace Self Storage facility, and take a look at the sizes that are available.  If you have just a few odds and ends, including  storage boxes and clothing (i.e. a college student), you will probably only need a 5’x5’ space, what we refer to as a mini closet.  If you are storing beds, dressers, couches, a washer and dryer, or even a car, you will need a unit that is much larger, like a 10’x20’.  The most popular size for storage is a 10’x10’ space.  This space looks like a small bedroom, and here at StorPlace the ceilings are at least 8’ high which allows for stacking.  If you don’t need to get into the space very often, you should stack accordingly, whereas, if you are visiting the space a few times a week you want to make those necessary items easier to access. Remember you always want to see the space before you move in to make sure that everything is to your liking.

Here are a few tips everyone should use when planning on storing their goods.  First, do not ever put anything that has moisture on it into your space.  If you are storing a refrigerator, make sure to clean it out, let it defrost, as well as leave the door propped open.  Moisture breeds mold, and what good are your items if they are all moldy.  Secondly, you should never store any of the following, food, explosives, ammunition, propane or flammable items, or anything that smells bad.  Any of these items are a breeding ground for trouble.  Third, if you are storing anything sensitive to heat or cold, such as electronics, antiques, or leather, you should put these items into a heated and cooled space.

Remember, you always want to make sure you contact your insurance company to ensure they cover off-site storage. If not you will need to purchase insurance to keep your goods safe.  While each StorPlace facility is safe and secure, you never know what can happen.  Insurance is one of those things that’s always good to have, but you hope you never have to use.  For added security, always store the more expensive items (i.e. TV’s and electronics) in the back of your unit.  In case of a break in, these items will most likely be overlooked because they aren’t visible from the front of the unit.  We also recommend never storing anything that is irreplaceable. Insurance will not help you if what is destroyed is invaluable.

In conclusion, following these tips will make your  self storage experience a little less stressful.  If you ever have any questions a friendly associate at StorPlace Self Storage will be more than happy to accommodate you.

Please come visit our friendly and professional  consultants at 1138 Highway 96, Franklin, TN 37067, or you can call ust at 615-591-9008.

Cleanliness Is Key for Self Storage and Car Parking

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

There are a variety of reasons many of us find ourselves shopping for self storage units. People who have home offices use them as a miniature warehouse. Those that are moving are offered a convenient and secure place to lock away their belongings during the transition. And there are plenty of us who find that our homes are overflowing with items that we do not need every day but still want to keep around. Whatever your reason, self storage at StorPlace on Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, TN 37217 can provide an easy and inexpensive solution for your storage needs.

When beginning your search for self storage, it is important to identify some key things you are looking for. Cleanliness should often be a consideration when it comes to storage units but is often overlooked. It will only be a matter of a month or two before you realize the importance of cleanliness if you opted not to pay attention to this particular aspect of storage units. A dirty storage unit, or worse yet multiple dirty storage units can attract and play host to vermin and insects.

Insects like cockroaches and vermin like mice have been known to infiltrate storage units and they can wreak havoc on your personal belongings. Mice chew through anything like storage boxes, papers, fabric and many other materials to help them burrow and make a nest for themselves. Cockroaches can infest your property but you may not even realize it. Outside of having your items destroyed, it could set your new home up for infestations on its own. If you do not catch and completely eradicate the infestation, you will be tracking vermin and insects into your home, only to have the problem continue.

Also, you need to make certain that there are not spiders that can cause serious health problems such as black widows and brown recluses. These can be plentiful in some units and prefer to nest   and tuck away in the recessed corners of the storage unit. Because they can nest in the units, they are plentiful in their reproduction. There can be an abundance of baby spiders that can be hard to see or identify or that can nestle in the boxes where items are stored.

When looking at potential storage units, look literally for dirt. Take note on how the property itself is maintained as well as if there are any signs of potential infestation in your storage locker. Look for holes that insects or mice may use to get into the unit itself and call it their new home. You will also want to check the door to make sure that it seals completely and thoroughly. Not only will this keep infestation out but will help deter elements like rain or snow from creeping into the unit. A nice, tight seal on the bottom of the door means the dirt cannot blow in, covering your items in a grimy layer, forcing you to clean it when you move out.

The same guidelines should be used when storing a vehicle. You do not want to host insects in your vehicle or have it damaged by the weather. Storing a vehicle inside a storage unit can be a safe and inexpensive way to protect your car from the elements until you have a better alternative. Many people who have antique cars, which they show at car shows, prefer to store them in Murfreesboro Nashville at StorPlace Self Storage located at 2156 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37217, or call us at 615-361-1000.

Call or come see for yourself the outstanding property, which fits the criteria described above, and the professional storage consultants to assist you with all your storage needs.

Storage of Cars and Campers

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Collecting and restoring antique and vintage model cars is a popular hobby.  One of the many challenges facing a person who is interested in the hobby of collection and restoration of automobiles is finding a place to keep the car during or after the restoration process. Many times the collector’s own garage houses the cars that he or she uses for their everyday driving activities. Having several cars parked in the driveway or on the street in front of the house can be an eyesore. Ideally, an antique car should be kept out of direct exposure to the elements such as rain and direct sun. Additionally, many homeowners live in neighborhoods that have restrictions or covenants regarding the number of cars that can be parked in a driveway. Many covenants forbid the parking of a car on the street for an extended length of time. These covenants may also prohibit the building of metal shelter or a detached garage on the property.  So the question for many collectors is “Where can I keep my vintage automobile?”

A self-storage unit is the perfect answer to this dilemma. An outside access or drive-up unit, as they are commonly called, can be a convenient solution to the problem.  These units have tall garage style doors that lift up and away to enable the driver to drive the car directly into the unit from the pavement just like a garage attached to a home. The automobile owner can be sure that their car is safely parked in their unit and free from the damage that can be caused by direct sunlight and rain and hail damage. A unit the size of a 10×20 or a 10×25 can accommodate most cars very easily.

This time of year is a popular time to go camping.  Campers are particularly popular in Middle Tennessee Nashville because of all the lakes, public campgrounds and nearby mountains. Especially in these economic times, having a camper provides a n inexpensive but fun family vacation. Many people buy a new pop-up camper, travel trailer or fifth-wheel trailer for use during summer vacations.  Once again, new camper owners, or those who already have a camper, may not have somewhere to store their camper when they are not actively using it.  There may not be room in the house garage especially considering how large some campers have become.  After making such a significant purchase as a camper the owner would want to protect it so that it can stay clean and usable for many years to come to protect the investment that was made.  And also the owner would want to take in consideration the option of selling the camper at a later date and keeping it in good condition is the best way to ensure its worth in the resale market.  Once again, a drive up unit would be an excellent way to store and protect a camper. The drive up units can easily accommodate campers of all sizes. These units are also easy for a truck or SUV to back the camper into for storage and then easily pulled out again when its time to leave on vacation.

A ground outside, or “drive-up” unit is the perfect solution to having a convenient and safe place to keep your treasured automobile or vacation camper. Come visit us at  Hermitage StorPlace Self Storage where we can find just the perfect spot for your car, camper, or RV. We are located at 3986 Central Pike, Hermitage, TN 37076 and we can be reached by phone at 615-871-4888.
